I Started a Non-Profit Organization
We all have a file cabinet in our minds labeled “Things I’ll Do Someday.” Or at least I do.
In my case, that folder held a dream: starting a non-profit foundation to change how kids learn, create, and discover what they’re capable of. I always assumed it would be a distant, late-career milestone or something I’d tackle far down the road once I felt "ready."
But lately, a question kept looping in my head: If I have the drive, the vision, and the means to build it today, why on earth am I waiting?
The truth is, the gap in our education system isn’t waiting around, and neither am I. The right time to make a difference is the moment you have the power to do it. That is why I am incredibly proud to introduce the Creative Access Foundation.
The Reality: BC Schools are Growing, but Tech Education Isn’t 💻
Growing up in British Columbia, I lived through the massive explosion of the internet age. I remember the pure excitement of watching the digital world expand, but I also vividly remember the frustration of how limited our technology and creative education actually was in the classroom.
Fast forward to 2026. You would think that every child in BC now has a seamless, cutting-edge digital education. But if you look closely at the statistics, the reality is the opposite which I found very surprising.
Despite our rapid world changes, a vast majority of the BC school system is still significantly behind when it comes to comprehensive, modern tech and design literacy. At the same time, BC’s student population is growing. Classrooms are filling up, but the curriculum isn't keeping pace with the tools kids actually need to survive, and thrive, in the modern world.
Education needs to follow the population, and it needs to match the era we live in.
What I’m Bringing to the Table 💁♀️
I am building this foundation entirely from the ground up, fueled by two things:
1. My background in UX/UI design and Graphic Design.
2. A genuine love for helping people.
As a designer, my entire job revolves around solving problems, making things accessible, and looking at the world through a lens of infinite possibilities. I want to take that exact framework and use it to help the education system.
The statement I started with: To show kids that their future career choices and opportunities are vastly wider than the standard paths they are generally told about.
Looking Ahead: The Master Plan 📈
At this exact moment, our phase-one goal is awareness and foundational education. I want people to see the data, understand how far behind our systems are, and realize that we can’t just wait around to fix themselves.
But this is just the beginning.
I am well aware that this isn’t just a BC problem. If you look across other Canadian provinces and into developing countries worldwide, the gap in tech and creative education is often far wider and even more severe. The scale of the global digital divide can feel overwhelming. But I deeply believe that the best way to make a global impact is to master the blueprint locally first. By proving what works right here in our own backyard, we can build a model that can be adapted anywhere.
While we are starting local, my ultimate wish is to expand the Creative Access Foundation far beyond our current boundaries. If you believe that our kids deserve more than the status quo, I'd love for you to join me on this journey. Follow along as we build, design, and create access—one student at a time.
Join the Journey ❤️
